The rules for work are changing. We are being judged by a new yardstick: not just how smart we are, or by our training, experience and expertise, but also by how well we handle each other.
This yardstick is increasingly applied in choosing who will be employed, who will be let go, who will be passed over, and who will be promoted.
I.Q. is being taken for granted.
Research shows that the effective manager must have more than just intelligence and ability, and the most effective manager must have a mixture of the following:
I.Q. |
26% |
of the time, intelligence will have an impact. |
E.Q. |
36% |
of the time, understanding emotion: Emotional Quotient, will have an impact. |
M.Q. |
38% |
of the time, understanding how business works: Management Quotient, will have an impact |

Emotional Intelligence:
Managing feelings so they are expressed appropriately and effectively, enabling people to work together smoothly and have relationships so that people work towards common goals.
Emotional Intelligence is neutral:
Culture, creed and sex have no influence. Anyone can reach high levels of Emotional Intelligence.
Emotional Intelligence is learned:
It’s not like IQ, which has a tendency to remain static after our teen ages. If the IQ isn’t developed by then, it’s unlikely to develop further.
EQ continues to grow as we learn from our experiences in life and is sometimes simply referred to as ‘maturity’.
EQ is further enhanced by the study of it from experts.
